Rory Mcllory became only the fourth PGA Professional to win four majors by the age of 25. He joins Jack Nicklaus, Booby Jones and Tiger Woods with his PGA win on Sunday at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky. Rory held off Phil Mickelson and Ricky Fowler with a final round 68 while finishing his last putt in the dark because of rain delays during the final round.
“I didn’t think in my wildest dreams I’d have a summer like this,” said McIlroy, only the seventh player to win the last two majors of the year. “I played the best golf of my life. I really gutted it out today.”
Ricky Fowler’s final round 68 made him the first professional golfer to finish in the top five in every major championship in 2014. Ricky congradulated Rory saying,”Rory played great this week, and he’s been a deserving champion last three tournaments. He’s playing quite good right now. Best player in the world, hands down. We’ll see if we can sneak one away from him at some point.”
Mcllory has won three straight tournaments including the British Open, World Golf Championship and the PGA Championship. His poise and confidence was evident Sunday when he lost the lead on the front nine and came back to finish the back nine in 32, like a true champion.
America Golf continues to see Rory Mcllroy as the shining star of the PGA Tour while the 2014 Tour schedule will soon be history and 2015 may be the year Rory takes his game and golf titles to the next level…
